I thank you for the honour and privilege of being asked to take on the role of President for 2025. Thank you to Potton Bowls club for nominating me and to Steve and all those who have gone before I have a high level to follow. I may not be one of the highest standard bowlers in the county, but I do have other attributes. I was club captain at Potton for 6 years,

I am a coach, a national umpire and coordinate umpires and markers in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire. I am also a trainer / examiner of markers and umpires.

I would like to congratulate Steve Jenings on his work as President in the 2024 season even if I was the butt of many jokes at the friendly games.

My aim for the 2025 season is to carry out my duties as President to the highest standard, showing respect to all past Presidents and to promote Bowls Bedfordshire to the highest level.

My chosen charity is Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity. For those who have never heard of them they are over 70 years old, run 40+ Good neighbour schemes, have community agents who help isolated and vulnerable adults, for 15 years have run wellbeing walks currently they have 42 walk programmes and assist in organising Green Wheels linking footpaths to open spaces. They run two community transport schemes Door 2 Door and greensands minibuses both with wheelchair access. They have taken ownership of Dunstable Community Halls, run Ridgemont Railway Heritage Centre and Warden Abbey vineyard. They have many volunteers to thank for most of the items they undertake.

Finally, I would like to wish all bowlers and officials a healthy and successful 2025 season.

President Gordon McCann

Unfortunately, we have no President again this year so will be relying on our Past Presidents to step into the spotlight again and take on the role of Acting President at each of our County Friendly matches - thank you ladies for undertaking this role.  We had very good results in our friendly matches in 2023 so hopefully we can emulate this in 2024.  Our clubs voted to enter the proposed new Eastern Counties League and we are excited to introduce these matches into our programme.

Last year we held a very successful County Day in place of President's Day and we will be holding one again this year when hopefully we will have most clubs represented.  A chance to meet old and new friends.

No President's charity unfortunately as last year but we chose the very worthwhile charity, The Anthony Nolan Trust, and managed to raise a good amount as well as raising awareness of this exceedingly worthwhile charity.  We have chosen to again support this charity in 2024.

Our ladies enjoyed a very successful time at Leamington in 2023 and we hope we can have equal success in 2024.  So good luck to everyone in your competitions and we look forward to seeing you on the green.

Best wishes
